Welcome Aboard Part 2! All The Info You’ve Been Waiting For…

If  this is your very first visit and/or your looking to subscribe, please check out my first post…it’s important too. There’s a nifty perk in there for email subscribers. ;)

=========================================

That title was this close to being, …Bigger, Longer, More Pleasurable…but then my buddy Sire would have been forced to leave multiple comments and I know how busy he is reading other business building blogs. Now however he only has to comment once, as I’m sure our mutual friend Mitch will as well.

OK sorry about that, I got caught up in the moment. There will be plenty of future articles regarding the how and why of successfully linking to fellow bloggers. ;)

As stated in my first post this is the second, much longer, much more informative welcome post many of you have waited anxiously for; some a wee more anxious then others. (Oops, did it again.)

Grab your favorite beverage, this may take awhile (875 words worth). I can’t promise 100% coherency, but I’ll try not to jump around to much while explaining it all in as much detail as possible…even this very sentence was longer then in my head; oh well…

The Theme:

As you can tell, I’m launching a bit different then most bloggers would, if you know me this shouldn’t be a huge shock. We’ve all read the hundreds of posts regarding theme design and how it affects how both regular visitors and advertisers regard your blog, for better or worse.

(I’d link to all those posts too, but Google would send big scary men to my house.)

I thought it would be really cool-lots of fun to do it “live”, getting feedback along the way from those that matter most…YOU the reader. Whether through comments or direct email, I look forward to plenty of reader participation. :)

The Content:

Now this may get confusing; I’ll do my best. ALL posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags from DSWM have been copied over to this blog. EVERYTHING is all nice and snug resting comfortably in “draft mode”. The plan is to release them one by one from the beginning…updated of course if need be.

I’ll be using the automated scheduler for this , assuming that feature is now working in WP 2.9.1.

(If you’re one of the generous souls that contributed to the nearly 8000 comments, no worries, everything is intact.)

I thought this was the absolute perfect way to…

1. Get the SEO on each and every post done correctly from the start.

2. Allow newer readers to catch up on articles missed, while allowing older readers to revisit articles they enjoyed but perhaps did nothing with.

In-between these articles will be fresh content from me along with guest posts…allowing me time to work on the theme and not being worried about posting all the time.

I’ll try to come up with some sort of posting schedule, but no promises on the accuracy of that either.

(Interested in guest blogging? Contact me – admin@dennisedell.com)

OK now this may or may not annoy you, at best it will simply confuse you, lol. This blog may or may not contain ANY “blogging tips”.

Huh? Excuse me? What was that now?

Yea well, the thing is I seriously went off target on DSWM. Direct Sales Web Marketing was/is supposed to be all about helping those new or struggling with online marketing for their direct sales businesses. If you browse back in the archives a bit, you will see actual “marketing” tips articles; what a concept, eh? LOL.

If you’re a blogger through and through, do not despair-do not unsubscribe; marketing tips are good for any type of website…for the most part.

(I know what you might be wondering about now, and yes, I am currently putting my own physical product e-commerce site back online as well.)

Now, IF I run low on content or someone happens to ask a specific question, then I will blog about blogging specifically.

I do have lots of blogging articles sitting in draft mode, both from DSWM and ones that have yet to be written. These will either be used as guest posts around the sphere (still “original” since they will be deleted from DSWM), or transferred (again) to the new blogging tips blog I have in mind.

STOP WHINING, it will NOT be “just another blogging tips blog”…in-fact, one idea in mind is an entire membership site, available services and all.

===============================================================

I’m thinkin’ that’s about it for now. It’s a lot to absorb, I know. Read it a couple times if you need to and I’m always here for your thoughts and questions; either through comments below or direct email (admin@dennisedell.com).

Did I miss anything? Is there anything else you’d like to know RIGHT NOW? If there is anything I can answer quick I will; if not it may turn into a whole ‘nother post…a possible backlink opportunity for you. ;)

There is one post I’ve been working on for a while now. Starting somewhat “fresh” like this is going to give me the opportunity to do a few things differently, not merely with the blog itself, but how I operate in general; some you may like, some you may not. As they say, you can’t please all! :)

D.

Remember the nifty perk for email subscribers. ;)

@Holly Jahangiri, Ah! You confused me using URL and Permalink as one and the same like that.

Yes indeed, re-introducing old articles is something all bloggers should do from time to time.

I’ve done it two ways. 1. Simply using the auto-scheduler feature; click click and it’s re-posted whenever you want. AND 2. Copying the whole post, deleting it completely and pasting it back in as a brand new post.

The reason I’ve done #2 is because I never figured out if the post will go through the RSS feed again if I just use the auto-scheduler.

    Hope that helps?

Actually, one of my thoughts is that, when you actually do select a blog theme, put all the links to blogging or any other topics that you wrote on more than one as instructional into a page, which will sit at the top of your site and allow everyone to see it up there, with everything in one place.

Scheduling all those posts to automatically post, eh? Now there’s a brand new idea. Actually, I have already gone back and read all your old posts, so I may not comment on those I did already again. lol

    @Mitch, Hey Mitch, interesting ideas.

Regarding the page idea, you mean like what bloggers do with “pillar” articles, right? Well, I may just be my own worst critic, and I’ll have to really re-read them, but I personally don’t see that in my current articles.

“Scheduling all those posts to automatically post, eh? Now there’s a brand new idea.” – little bit of sarcasm? lol

Part of my idea is for people just like yourself, who may have read most if not all my posts already (seriously, all of them? Damn man lol)…most days in which I re-post an oldie there will be a new one right behind it. This should also fill up the blog nicely for the search engines. :)

    [Reply]

    Mitch Reply:

@Dennis, Actually, no sarcasm at all. It would have been if you’d said you just discovered it, but in this case, you have lots of old articles to repurpose, so to speak, and by having them scheduled you probably could go out a bunch of months, even a year, with older posts popping up if you so chose to do. That’s not such a bad idea; I’ve heard of people writing lots of articles before creating a blog, then putting all the articles up to post later on so they don’t have to deal with anything for up to the first year.

The page idea is like what I did on my site, where I wrote that little blogging series last year, then created a page for it and put all the links to the series there for anyone who visits and might want to check it out. They’re all in one place, which makes it easy for them to find.

@Mitch, Oops, OK then sorry about that. lol

LOL@take a year off, nice. With 200 or so posts, it’s a thought. Actually no, not all are coming back out; old contest posts and crap like that.

I’ve seen such blogs that you refer too. While writing and scheduling ahead of time is an awesome idea, most of those I’ve seen don’t bother responding to comments either.

Ah yes, the tips page idea. It’s a thought. :)

I for one am glad to hear we’ll be getting more marketing related content than just blogging – the irony of an internet jammed with blogs about blogging ;)

Themewise.. please.. just keep it simple, clean colours, black text on white writing and easy to read – not all of us have 20/20 vision!

@Matt Chatterley, I’m really thinking about how best to do the blogging thing. The truth remains; nowadays anyone with a static type site, like direct sellers, NEED a blog to back it up.

One way or another it wil be nice and clean with super easy navigation. You as areader will be in on the creation from the beginning, I think starting with the next post.

Of course I really won’t be able to accommodate everyone’s every wish, but I’ll do what I can. ;)

Actually, really good SEO on an individual post probably can’t or shouldn’t be “seen” at all. Ex: Keyword stuffing.

I realy appreciate you sticking around Ralph, I’ll ty not to disappoint. :)

Talk about building up the anticipation levels Dennis. :)

I think having these old articles popping up regularly is a good idea, but I would still be introducing new articles on a regular basis, at least once or twice a week. That at the guest posts I think you’re going to go really well.

“In-between these articles will be fresh content from me along with guest posts…allowing me time to work on the theme and not being worried about posting all the time.”

I also responded to Mitch above with this…

“Part of my idea is for people just like yourself, who may have read most if not all my posts already (seriously, all of them? Damn man lol)…most days in which I re-post an oldie there will be a new one right behind it. This should also fill up the blog nicely for the search engines.”

    No worries friend!
