  • When Will You Get A REAL Job?

OMFG! If you work from home (yes even part time) then you’ve heard this question…most likely numerous times!

Friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers (wondering why you’re not full time) and even total strangers; a friend of a friend perhaps…..none of whom “get it”, am I right?

Aye Curumba! *eyes roll out the back of head*

Now I mentioned relatives, and meant it. I think we can all agree though that it’s never better then from immediate family…..dun dun daaaaaaaaaaaa! You know it!

The kicker to it all is, though they have no qualms about spouting off in their oh so rightuous way, they also don’t have issues with calling in the middle of the day or “dropping by” unannounced. Afer all, since you’re home it MUST mean you’re available, right?

    <sigh>

This might be one for RantBlogger, but would probably be rejected as “too common”. LOL

Anyhoo, How do you handle it? Do you even bother anymore?

I got rid of the comments that I was wasting my time when I showed them the checks I deposited from December…

In sharing my part time online income with my doubters I have silenced them.—

Only one of my relatives has ever had a month over half of my December payday.

You know, I don’t hear it all that often, but I know my wife talks about it with her friends, who always seem to be trying to find a job I’d be interested in. My wife is supportive, but since there are times when I go through long periods of little money, she gets scared, even though I make more money than I used to when I was fully employed. Other than that, though, I’m fairly lucky.

@Mitch, Gotta love them friends, don’t ya?

More is good but sporadic is scarey, I can see that…I live that as well lol.

6 months steady with solid future predictions should put an end to it. ;)

@Dennis Edell, It would if I could get that six months steady, which, as you know, just crashed and burned on me.

So, you going to make that correction above? :-)

Some of us already have a full time job Dennis. I work 40-50hrs a week as a wagon driver and often find my self blogging and running my empire from my laptop.

I am currently sat in my wagon 250 miles from home.

So i get the opposite with people saying why dont i work from home fulltime if i can make more money that way.

Simple answer i like driving wagons and sitting at home all day would do my head in.

Plus my wage from wagon driving is all mine to do with as i please as my online earnings pay the bills and the holidays.

Since I’m not sharing in your success just yet, I have not had that exact question. However, I get a similar response when I mention I desire to do that in the future. Almost as if they think I am just dreaming and that it can’t be done…

I got that question when I first started my freelance. It was so annoying having to tell each of my friends/family/relatives/neigbours, etc that I am doing well with my freelance and that freelance itself is a work. So many times they thought that work-at-home equals to free and doubt that I really work. -__-

It’s been a year now and people still ask me. But, I just proudly mention that I can live just by freelancing. After all, my parents support me (after they saw the amount that I earn, and yes, they surely expect it to increase from month to month -__-).
